The Surfing HPC strategic location is 15 minutes south of the world class Gold Coast point breaks such as Snapper Rocks, but enough distance away to allow cutting edge training and coaching in idyllic conditions with uncrowded waves.
The Resort associated with the Surfing HPC also provides holiday accommodation as it does for surfing training schools and sports that come to the multi-purpose facility for training camps.
Over the years these have included both rugby's, along with Japanese rugby teams who have spent two weeks with in house programs. The facilities include all those modern set-ups such as swimming pools, gym and sports science.
The HPC is the world's first dedicated surf training facility which has secured a federal government pledging of $2 million for a dedicated training facility. It is expected that the new national training centre will be operational by the end of this year.
Surf training is a critical part of the facility and the Surfing High Performance Centre. Administrator James Eggington often travels with Australian junior squads to international competitions. James co-ordinates the training schools which bring in top surfers for seminars to these champion surf youngsters.
This Surfing High Performance Centre also houses 'Basil Sellers Tweed' the facility for respite made available to the Australian Institute of Sport's athletes and coaches.
Well-Being Australia has provided respite facilities for AIS athletes and coaches since 1992 in Moruya on the New South Wales south coach, since 2006 at the Surfing High Performance Centre and more recently, in 2011 at Laguna Quays on the Whitsundays.
The AIS Diving Unit based in Brisbane at Chandler has been the most prolific user of the Surfing High Performance Centre's 'Basil Sellers Tweed' facility.
Well-Being Australia chairman Mark Tronson explained that when, a coach from the AIS in Canberra or from any of the SE Qld AIS Sport Units, seeks time-out at 'Basil Sellers Tweed' the first contact is WBA, who then arranges that respite visit with James Eggington. The system runs has run smoothly since its inception in 2006.
