Young 'Sport' writers were first off the rank, and by March this year five young volunteer Sports writers were engaged by providing one article a week and they were assigned a specific 'day'.
Clayton Hinds was established as the Friday sports writer (NRL, Super 14 and Cricket). Jeremy Dover on Thursdays (AFL, Track & Field and other sports), Wesley Tronson on Wednesdays (EPL Soccer), Rosie Timmins on Tuesdays (Women's sports plus other sports) and Joshua Hinds (USA and International sport).
In June a mini-conference was held on the Gold Coast where Christian Today met with the five young Sports writers and three of them were interviewed for the Australian Missionary News IPTV (Clayton, Jeremy and Rosie).
The daily sports article has now become a feature of Christian Today and their readership statistics are remarkable. They each seem to have regular readers, for example, many people like EPL (English Premier League) and read the Wednesday article. A second example, others have shown a proclivity to USA Sport and read the Monday article. Similarly the others.
Christian Today Australia likewise has a Comment column for which I regularly contribute. It seemed that as I have been ill, and growing older and heading towards inevitable retirement, where I might not be able to maintain a continuing heavy literary commitment, it was provident that I secure a group of similarly bright young people to write a Comment article each month. One a month!
Already Well-Being Australia has seven young Comment writers, with another group starting in February and another seven have been asked to consider this opportunity.
The current seven are Nathan Dirs from Sydney, Belinda Scotland the Sunshine Coast, Jeremy Dover Melbourne, Nathanael Yates of Perth, Tim Wilson from Brisbane, Ben Kitzelman from the Gold Coast and Laura Veloso of the Central Coast have each several published articles under their belt.
Those starting in February comes from Newcastle, Melbourne, Perth and the Gold Coast. Those young people Well-Being Australia have asked to consider writing Comment are from Townsville, Rockhampton, Yeppoon, Mackay, Hobart and Brisbane.
There are still a number of 'days of the month' available and enquiries are welcome - contact Well-Being Australia at email@example.com
It has been a remarkable year for Well-Being Australia in securing so many bright young people around the nation. One of our elderly praying ladies said of this development, that Biblical leadership 'mentors' the next generation. What a privilege for us 'oldies'.
