Upcoming American sitcom television series 'American Housewife' has added Wendie Malick as the protagonist's mother in the show.
As per EW, Malick will play Katie's (Katy Mixon) distant mother, Kathryn, described as a less-than-perfect parent and a former flight attendant for Pan Am who, naturally, is "a touch narcissistic" and is a thorn in Katy's side during the holidays.
Malick's plate is full this fall as she is also playing Sebastian Lund's (Rob Kerkovich) mother in 'NCIS New Orleans' season 3 and will star in Fox's baseball drama, Pitch.
A brainchild of Sarah Dunn, whose works include Spin City, theshow will chronicle the daily life of Katie, and her imperfect family including her three children, whom she raises in the wealthy town of Westport, Connecticut which is filled with immaculate mums and their children. It was formerly named The Second Fattest Housewife in Westport but was changed to American Housewife.
"One of the things that Sarah Dunn, who's the creator of the show, feels is — what we love about the character Katie Otto that's played by Katy Mixon is that she feels very universal and very relatable," said ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey about the name change.
"What we love about American Housewife is that it feels that it can speak speak for housewives from New York to Los Angeles, from Boise to Miami, so it feels very universal and that's part of what we like about the show."
The show will premiere on October 11 on ABC and fans are already excited to catch the very first episode.
