A friend phoned me the other day.
As I was talking to her, she asked me if I had seen the email she had sent me. I told her I hadn’t and would have a quick look.
I went searching for my Iphone to bring up the email, but it was not on the kitchen bench. It wasn’t in the dining room or my bedroom or in the lounge. I looked in my bag and still could not find it and I was getting increasingly frustrated and annoyed.
Then I realised that I was talking to her on my Iphone.
My Iphone had always been there.
My children and family
When you have children they are always there.
My eldest daughter is now living in Australia but she is always in the back of my mind, despite the distance that divides us.
She will always be there for me and I will always be there for her.
My youngest daughter has just got married and will be moving away shortly from Wellington to Christchurch, but she will always be there.
My parents live in Christchurch but I am always there for them because they have always been there for me.
My family is always there.
God
The above experience has helped me to realise that God is aways there.
No matter what you are going through or where you are in life, God is ever present.
He is in your joy and he is in your sorrow. He is in your completeness and he is in your brokeness.
So often, I have been guilty of only recognising God in my sorrows and in my brokeness. Turning to him when I needed something or thought I needed something.
Forgetting to praise him when things are going well and believing in more of me and less of him.
Being rushed by the busyness of life and not slowing down to appreciate a special moment or the beauty around me.
David thought about this too and cried out to God:
God is in our heavens – in our joyous moments.
And God will cradle us in our lows.
No matter how far we journey he is there to guide us, hold us and appreciate us.
I want to live a life where God is at the forefront of everything I do. Where he is ever present in my thoughts and my decision making.
Where I appreciate what I am holding within me and what has been placed around me.
The experience with my Iphone has taught me a valuable lesson.
