Liverpool hosted Man United on Sunday in what is England's most famous fixture and it didn't disappoint. United were desperate to get back to winning ways however with some big named injuries they struggled to get out of 1st gear. Liverpool took full advantage with Kuyt scoring an incredible hat trick to give united their 2nd consecutive defeat. Liverpool are now in the box seat for 6th and an outside chance of the champions league.
In the battle to avoid the drop, midweek Carling Cup winners Birmingham hosted West Brom in a midlands derby. Birmingham however were clearly suffering a hangover as they were beaten 3-1 by a vibrant West Brom. Birmingham have now dropped into the relegation zone with this defeat and will need to dig deep to avoid being dumped out of the premiership. West Brom meanwhile has moved away from immediate danger.
West Ham United are getting better and better and they moved out of the relegation positions with a dominating 3-0 win over stoke City at Upton Park. The Hammers ran riot as German star Hitzlsperger scored and assisted to ensure West Ham moved away from the danger zone and give their fans hope of another season with the elite.
Aston Villa faced a tricky trip to Bolton and were stung by a former player. Cahill scored a brace for Bolton whilst Young missed to penalty to record a great win for Bolton 3-2. Bolton came from behind twice to move up to 6th ahead of Liverpool in the race for a European place. Everton meanwhile won well away at Newcastle, Jagielka scoring the winner at St James park to move them into midtable. Manchester City also had a tough 1-0 win at home to Wigan whilst Fulham eased their relegation fears with a 3-2 win over Blackburn. In Sundays other game Wolves and Spurs shared the points in a pulsating 3-3 draw.
