Music plays such a powerful part in a Christian’s faith. The best example is King David’s cries, laments and praises found in the Psalms. In these, we see the way emotion and doctrine are interwoven in song. Today, we see many Christians expressing their faith the same way through song.
The Lakes
I wanted to profile one such group that comes from The Lakes Church, Cairns. Sisters Sharolyn and Grace express the significance of music in worship with Sharolyn explaining “it is a way for me to express my passion for music and God.” Grace mirrors this saying, “Music is and has been a big part of my life and I am so grateful to be able to worship at The Lakes.”
The Lakes Facebook recently featured their rendition of Hillsong’s Be Still. “This song reminds me of God’s presence in my life through the highs and lows,” Sharolyn says. “It also gives faith and assurance in His promises.”
As you listen to these talented sisters singing Be Still reflect on this reality that God’s providence means we can trust in Him. Providence expresses the knowledge that God has a plan, and being all powerful, will bring this plan about for His glory. It also links with the fact that God is also all loving. This means that His plan not only brings glory to Himself but also will eventually express this love to His people. The result is we can be still and rest in God.
For Grace this song “is such a powerful song because it reminds me of the presence and love God gives to us each and every day and that we are able to be still, knowing God is in control.”
“I want the church to feel welcome to rest in God's presence and to know His great love,” Sharolyn explains. Grace concludes, “I hope and pray that everyone is able to find God’s presence and love even when it seems like nothing good is happening around us.”
A big thank you to the skilled Sharolyn and Grace for this song and to Pastor Geoff Snook from The Lakes Church.
