Bible Society NSW has embarked on a partnership with African Enterprise to mark Reconciliation Day in Rwanda by developing the 'hope literacy program' for children that focuses on the healing power of God's Word by using inspirational Scriptures.
The chosen Scripture portions will focus on forgiveness, justice and reconciliation. The aim of the partnership is to break the cycle of hatred through God's teaching as well as improving the literacy skills of 102,000 Rwandan children.
The project's goal is to raise $575,000 over 3 years. The donations will make a, "life changing difference to future generations in Rwanda, whose only crime was to be born in the wrong place at the wrong time", said Bible Society NSW website.
During the Rwanda genocide thirteen years ago (1994) almost 70% of the population saw someone being killed or injured. In just 100 days, 1,000,000 Rwandans were killed, leaving many children orphans. July 16, has been gazetted as an annual day of national reconciliation.
