Ten Christians were arrested at the Borgaon-Bujurg village, about 35 kms from Khandwa, after they were accused of converting Hindus to Christianity.
A right-wing activist who is living in the village complained to authorities that the group, five of which were women, were talking ill of their gods and goddesses, as well as offering gifts and other donations just for them to change their religion into Christianity.
According to the report by Indian Express, the police authorities wanted to arrest the Christians under the 'anti-conversion' act which means they have insulted the Hindu religion and proselytizing among within the village.
However, because of lack of hard evidence, the Christians were instead arrested under the Section 295 (A) of the IPC - 'deliberate and malicious act intended to hurt religious feelings'.
In the report, the Christians were invited in the house of one Shyamlal whose daughter has recently been cured of her sickness. Shyamlal asked the Christians to celebrate with him and his family.
The Indian Express reports that the authorities arrested the Christians, but assured them of their safety. However, if hard evidence would be found, they will be charged under the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act.
