With the international break complete the Premier league has resumed. With many fixtures coming thick and fast before the next break at the end of March. Chelsea have extended their Premier league break after winning the world Club Cup.
Chelsea defeated South American Winners, Palmeiras, in extra time to claim their Maiden World Club Cup championship this week. It is a huge achievement that will see Chelsea resume the Premier league next week after this weeks Champions League fixtures.
Man City Still Ahead
Manchester City continued their impressive season with a 4-0 away win at in form Norwich City. Raheem Sterling was in incredible form with the perfect hat-trick which see’s City still 9 points ahead of the closest rivals Liverpool, although Liverpool do have a match in hand.
Liverpool meanwhile won a tough fixture away at Burnley. With Burnley fighting for survival and throwing everything at Liverpool. It wasn’t enough as Liverpool kept the pace with City, winning 1-0 away.
Weekend Review
Saturday’s early kick off saw United held 1-1 with Southampton at Old Trafford. Their poor form continued as they slipped to 5th in the table. Saturday’s other fixtures saw Everton dispose of Leeds 3-0 at home for Lampard’s first win as Everton Manager. Brighton won 2-0 away at Watford whilst Brentford and Crystal Palace played out a scoreless draw.
Sunday’s matches saw Newcastle defeat a poor Aston Villa 1-0 at St James’s park. Whilst Wolves continued their strong form with a 2-0 win away at the capital to continue Spurs bad run. Leicester and West Ham played out an extremely entertaining 2-2 at the King Power stadium. This leaves West Ham remaining in the last Champions League position.
