M V Tronson has long experience in the area of sports ministry, having pioneered the Sports and Leisure Ministry in 1982 in association with Heads of Churches. He is now also celebrating his 25th year as cricket chaplain. Since 2000, he changed focus as chairman of Well-Being Australia to AIS athlete and cricketers' respite. In this role, he has visited Tim Nielsen, former head coach at the AIS Cricket Centre of Excellence and the talented up-and-coming new generation of cricketers on numerous occasions.
Tim Nielsen is now coach of the Australian cricket team. On the day prior to the first day's play of the third cricket test against South Africa held in Sydney, Mark Tronson sent him a message.
The context of the note was focused on the outstanding new generation of cricketers, that they too will become the 'fascination of the nation'.
Nielsen, whose contract as the Australian team coach had been renewed for a further three years to 2011 replied: "I am very much looking forward to the challenge of redevelopment and regeneration. We have good players and people so with patience the sky will once again be the limit!"
To hone his point M V Tronson summarised the lesson from James 1 verse 21 that although in the biblical context: 'Receive … the engrafted word'; that of receiving to build-up one's spiritual strength in Christ, in the cricketing context the 'engrafted word' can be likened to those 16 years of international supremacy are an inspiration in the resurgence of such outstanding talent.
It is to this self same situation that M V Tronson now draws attention to Christian ministry in that a fresh generation is being trained up to take on leadership roles.
"In our own ministry, our focus is now on future development, allowing the next generation with their own visions and dreams for ministry and evangelism to come to the fore," M V Tronson explained.
Well-Being Australia's 'Country Town Tours' (CTT) and 'Around the Tables' (ATT) are two examples of this focus.
"Our CTT program must focus on illustrating to the local church the value of community ministry such as 'sports' and that ATT program is centering on face to face encounters with Christian leaders emphasising opportunities for the new generation," M V Tronson emphasised.
