In the CSIRO report, the peak Commonwealth scientific body has warned of the impact of global warming for Victorians including increase costs for bills and the rise in bushfires and flooding.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reports the scientific body conducted an impact study of climate change on Victoria, and found that it would lead to a rise in energy, water and telecommunication bills. Further by 2030, global warming will cause the rate of bushfires, electricity blackouts, water shortages, flooding and damage to underground pipes to increase.
The study's lead author, Paul Holper told the ABC that other states will face similar situation. He told the ABC: "The report will be very relevant to much of Australia."
A new report from U.K.-based Christian Aid predicts that up to 1 billion people between now and 2050 will be forced from their homes due to climate change in a "migration crisis" greater than that seen at the end of the Second World War.
While familiar threats are mentioned in the report, such as conflicts and natural disasters, the Christian charity says in the report that it fears the wave of migrations will generate new conflicts in areas of the world where resources are most scarce. The report, which marks the start of Christian Aid week, also says that forced migration is now the most urgent threat facing poorer countries.
