We live in a noisy world.
And if you are a quieter soul like me, the world can be a very noisy place.
So many things clamour for our attention and there are so many distractions. I sometimes feel like a human tug-of-war with my arms being pulled to one side and then something else wants to pull me over to the other side.
Not much gets accomplished as a human tug-of-war, mainly physical and emotional exhaustion.
But then I hear God whisper, “Let go! Come over to me and I will give you true rest.”
Drawing close to our Father
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you...
(James chapter four verse eight.)
The father heart of God yearns for us to draw close to him. How he delights in his sons and daughters choosing to walk away from earthly distractions to sit in his presence. He longs for us to converse intimately with him. He wants to hear us cry out from our hearts and in turn to wait quietly before him.
Sometimes this can seem a little hard or something that requires too much energy and focus. I admit, sometimes it is easier to keep scrolling mindlessly through my feed or to rely on external sources to ‘feed’ me spiritually.
But I hear God ask me, “Am I being still enough to hear his still, small voice?”
Be Still
Like the rustling of leaves we can hear because of the gentle breeze, Holy Spirit is always near; we need only be still enough. If we have not quietened our souls and switched off the external, noisy channels that scream for our attention, we can easily miss it.
I have discovered listening to what He is saying to me personally greatly impacts every aspect of my life, which in turn impacts my sphere of influence. Whether that is simply to my own two children, or to a larger audience.
Sitting alone with our Heavenly Father and waiting on him to hear his voice refreshes our entire being and steers us in the right direction, leaving us with a deep peace that passes all understanding and filling us with joy and peace.
