That win by 28 goals pointed in the direction of a semi-final berth today with England who gave been unbeaten to date. Diamonds coach Norma Plummer although pleased with the sin, was nonetheless nonplussed with the way the girls had to take those final points.
These West Indies girls threw themselves into this last pool match, although a dead rubber. There is always pride in trying to beat the Aussies.
The Diamonds however were good enough in the end. Sharelle McMahon scored 18 goals for the Australians, while Susan Pratley (17), Cath Cox (15) and Natalie Medhurst (12) all contributed on the scoreboard.
Today Australia and England play off for a position in the gold medal grand final, New Zealand and Jamaica will also be battling for a chance at gold.
Old rivalries are coming out to play, with the Diamonds not forgetting how New Zealand's Silver Ferns took the gold from them at the 2006 Games in Melbourne.
It is a well known fact that the Diamonds are out for some good hearted revenge. The semi finals will be played tonight and the grand final on Friday (AEST).
