Circumstantial proof has implied that some animals can detect disease and forecast natural disaster. Science is now showing that most of these 'predictions' seem to be right.
These are the animals that can help the world predict disasters:
1. Golden-winged wrablers
Henry Streby from University of California, Berkeley and his collaborators had discovered that golden-winged warblers depart from their usual whereabouts at least 24 hours before the storms strike.
2. Dogs
Dogs can smell prostate cancer as accurately as 98 percent based on the study presented at American Urological Association during their 109th Annual Scientific Meeting. Another study found out that dogs can also smell if a person is a diabetic or not through human sweat or breath.
3. Cats
After the earthquake in Japan, a survey was conducted by Hiroyuki Yamauchi of National Tsing Hua University and his colleagues about the reaction of the cat before the earthquake.
The result of the survey tells that before the earthquake, cats began "trembling, being restless and escaping." Other cats, before the quake, are just agitated.
4.Cows
Yamauchi and his collaborator reported that cow "showed lowered milk production six days before the earthquake," and milk production continued an additional four days after the quake.
5. Bees
Bees can sense the changes of atmosphere's moisture so they can predict the coming of the rain.
6. Lady Bugs
Lady bugs can predict very hot weather. They are bunched together to preserve the moisture of their body to avoid dehydration.
7. Sharks
Sharks, like tiger sharks, can help in predicting where the storm will appear and develop. Sharks are storm chasers according to Neil Hammerschlag from University of Miami's The R.J. Dunlap Marine Conservation Program
8. Fruit Flies
Alja Lüdke and his collaborators at the University of Konstanz conducted a study earlier about the fruit flies and found out that fruit flies can also sniff out cancer cells, specifically breast cancer which was the subject of the study.
9. Silvertip grizzly bears
Silvertip grizzly bears can smell human as distant as 18 miles. With their olfactory ability and their other sensory skills help them to sense incoming storms and other natural calamities.
10. Humans
Humans also have the sensory ability like bat-like echolocation which is used to foresee natural disasters.
