'Evan Almighty' the movie is much more than a comedy, says director Tom Shadyac on Sun Media, it is a biblical epic. This comment was made in response to reports estimating the cost of it to be as high as $US200 million.
Mr. Shadyac is so confident in the movie potential that he hinted to Sun Media on Thursday that it could become a franchise independent of any one actor, except for God.
He estimated the film to be over US$170 million and explained where the money was spent.
"We're $170 million-plus - (that's) the official figure although even I don't know what it was (for certain)," said Mr. Shadyac. "If you look (at the movie) I could point you specifically to where the money goes. The CG generation of water, composite shots 100 layers thick ... It's not two guys on a road trip behind the wheel of a Pinto."
The AP reported that Christian singer Jeremy Camp has given the movie two thumbs up after seeing the preview of it with his 2-year-old daughter. He told AP that the movie does not make a mockery of the Bible account and will hopefully encourage people to read it.
The movie is based on the story of Noah in Genesis where Noah must build an ark before a flood comes to wipe out all of humanity.
