Choosing to be in His presence and be immense in His love before we start our day always gave us a different outlook of the world and an incredible peace of mind.
Yet we do have weaknesses that surfaces in some circumstances, and it takes the communion with the Holy Spirit to know what to do next as He is the one given by Jesus that would lead us into all truth. Let me share a story that I experienced while I was in college.
It was early morning and a regular day of my on the job training. I was the first one to arrive at the office where we are assigned to complete our OJT. And usually if you were the first one to arrive, you have to take the initiative to clean the office before everyone arrives. The restroom where we usually wash the mop is inside a covered court which is just at the back of our office. It has two entrance doors. One is on the right and the other is on the left. The one on the left side is the closest to the office.
Unfortunately that day it was closed and the only door that was open was at the right side. I was a bit hesitant because if I use that door, I have to walk through a long and dark alley and I was actually afraid of the dark. I was thinking if I’m going or just stay in the office and forget about mopping the floor. I prayed closed my eyes and decided to walk through that dark alley.
I felt the intense darkness and fear start to creep in, all over my body. I recited Psalm 91 hoping that my fear will somehow subside. Though I was trembling, I was able to reach the bathroom. And then a sudden burst of laughter comes out of my lips when I heard the Holy Spirit whispered “The enemy is throwing you the spirit of fear because they are afraid of you!”.
After hearing this still small voice, I was filled with peace and I began to laugh so loud that even after I washed the mop and started walking back to that alley again, now, not with fear but with confidence from the Holy Spirit and immeasurable joy of knowing God is indeed with me. I meditate on that revelation all throughout the day.
Indeed the enemy will tremble at the presence of our Almighty to whom we serve. And as we become vessel of His work, we also become a carrier of His presence and His radiant light in us is seen by the enemy. Isaiah chapter 60, verses1-2 says;
“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.See, darkness covers the earthand thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you.”
And those that are in darkness are afraid to be exposed in the light. “And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness cannot overcome it!” (John chapter 1, verse 5) So whenever we feel the spirit of fear creeping in let us not be afraid to declare His word.
Always remember what Matthew chapter 5, verse14 says,“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.” And since we are loved by the Greatest Martyr ever lived. Let us be perfected in His love. “For perfect love cast out fear… the one who fears is not made perfect in love” (1 John chapter 4, verse 18)
