Before the event was held, the secretary of the Council, Vicki Buchanan, told the Gladstone Observer news publication that there was 'great excitement' among the local churches in celebrating this historic occasion.
Reverend David Mansfield, the rector of St. Philip Anglican Church in Sydney, recently told Christian Today Australia though some Christians would celebrate the first service, others might not since they had a limited appreciation of history.
"I think that very few Australians will know who Richard Johnson is even among the local Christian community. The reason is because Australians, including Christians, appreciation of history, in particularly church, is very limited," he said.
