It has been revealed that Grey's Anatomy's beloved pediatric surgeon Arizona Robbins, portrayed by Jessica Capshaw, had in fact come in to audition for another role on the hit series.
Betsy Beers, producer for ShondaLand, the company also behind ABC hits Scandal, How To Get Away With Murder and Private Practice, told attendees of the ATX Television Festival in Austin, Texas that she first met Capshaw when she auditioned for the role of Nurse Rose.
For those who need a little reminder, Nurse Rose appeared as a love interest for McDreamy, an arc which was much despised by MerDer fans at the time.
"Jessica came in for Nurse Rose and did a chemistry read with Patrick ... we fell in love with Jessica Capshaw."
Thankfully for fans, the role was finally given to Lauren Stamile.
Beers also revealed that Kevin McKidd, who portrays trauma surgeon Owen Hunt, also came close to playing another character of the show, which just wrapped up Season 12 last month.
"One of the things that happens a lot in Shondaland is that we meet actors and love them, but they're just not perfect for that part," Beers said.
"We met Kevin McKidd generally for a couple of different parts for him, until she created the role of Owen."
