Season 13 of the popular ABC television series Grey's Anatomy is set to feature a major storyline surrounding Alex and Jo.
Caterina Scorsone, who depicts Meredith's half sister Amelia Shepherd, revealed that fans will finally get a long-awaited, meatier story on Alex and Jo.
Last season's finale saw things crumbling down between the couple when Jo refused Alex's marriage proposal, and later revealing to fellow surgeon Deluca that she has been living under a false identity to hide from her abusive husband.
Scorsone added that the tension between the pair will make way for the show to explore some "vital issues." She also revealed that their story is going to be multilayered in social and personal character levels.
The series, which debuted on ABC in 2005, has become one of the highest rated, long running dramas.
The Season 12 finale episode "Family Affair" also featured the wedding of Amelia and Owen, and set the stage for a love triangle between sisters Meredith, Maggie and new hottie doctor Nathan Riggs.
The show's rating fell as the seasons progressed, but it is still among the overall top 10 shows in the US, even bagging the 'Favourite TV Network Drama' Award at the People's Choice Awards earlier this year.
Season 12 will premiere on Thursday, September 22 at 8/7c.
