HP is taking another step to expanding its Chromebook lineup with the new 11.6-inch G5.
The IT company announced that the Chromebook 11 G5, a new Chrome OS notebook which comes with touchscreen features, redesigned chassis, narrower display bezels, and is thinner and lighter than previous generations, will be available starting at only $189 USD.
The notebook is designed for those whose work depends upon their ultra-mobile, browser and ability to cloud compute in mind, such as students. HP also claimed that the battery is capable of lasting up to 12 and a half hours (though touchscreen models cuts this down to 11 hours).
Additionally, users will be able to download apps from Google Play, a feature which has been integrated into the upcoming notebook. According to Chromebooks product manager Anna Wu, a host of new education-focused apps will become available, as the touch screen provides a versatile learning experience for users.
Another version of the model comes with an optional HD IPS touchscreen panel protected by Corning® Gorilla® Glass NBT, which reduces reflection and is damage-resistant.
The unit is set for release through HP partners in July with in-store availability in October.
