A six-minute video of Canadian John Maguire, who joined ISIS January last year, shows him urging other Canadian Muslims to pursue attacks on certain targets on his homeland.
The six-minute video was released by SITE Intelligence Group. In it, Maguire, who used the jihadi name Abu Anwar al-Canadi, said that fellow Canadians should not be surprised when Muslims attack where it would hurt the most – in their very own land.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have been doing an investigation on Maguire, who was reported to have disappeared last year. They found out that he bought a one-way ticket to Syria and informed his family that he was suspected to have joined ISIS. He was then positively identified by a family member.
Maguire gave a warning to Canada that its involvement in the coalition targeting ISIS will result in attacks and that "Your people will be indiscriminately targeted, as you indiscriminately target our people." Addressing Canadian Muslims, he said in the video that they can either join ISIS or become like Martin Couture-Rouleau, who killed a Warrant Officer in Quebec.
