Tenth Avenue North frontman Mike Donehey is strongly urging Christians to model after Jesus, and not be easily swayed by culture or religion.
In a recent interview with Breathecast, Donehey expressed his dismay over the American church for its failure to make Christians and sinners alike feel safe the same way Jesus did.
"When I look at Jesus, he just seemed to always be available and he was always interruptible," he said.
But Donehey said that America is sending a different message. "All of us in America, especially a capitalistic society is going, 'No, your dream is the most important. You climb your way to the top, you push who ever you need behind you,'" he said.
"Even on social media you block who you want to block you follow who you want to follow, you get online when you want to get online. We're creating this paradigm where we can completely dictate what our community looks like and how involved we are," he added.
But Donehey said Jesus set a different example, and that is what people should follow. "You see him walking along and constantly being interrupted by people's needs, and constantly stopping what he was doing, where he was walking to," he said.
