The Women Convention entitled ‘Looking Out’ has key speakers inlcuding missionary and Christian counsellor Elizabeth Foord and Christine Dillon from Overeseas Missionary Fellowship.
In 2nd Corinthinas Mrs. Foord explain that suffering ‘provide the opportunity for an expanded ministry as women share the comfort they have received with others.’ Further she state that ‘God comfort will always outweight the trouble that assail Christians.’ She said: “We need to ask God to help us be willing to let him grow us through our troubles.”
Mrs. Dillion challenge women to ‘Look Out’ for people who seemed too far from God where: “Nebuchadnezzar seems like a ‘mission impossible,’ because of his worldly success and entrenched beliefs.” However using the book of Daniel she stated: “Everyone begin as a ‘mission impossible’ before God’s spirit begins to work. People seem to be mission impossible, but praise be to God because through Christ the mission is accomplished.”
The estimated arrival for the KCP is around 2,200 women from both interstate and overseas. Michael Orpwood a retired lawyer and a parishioner at Gladesville Christ Church one of the committee member for organising KCP has initiated a makeover because: “In previous years the October Convention was seen as the convention primarily for older people. It was commonly referred to as the ‘oldies Katoomba Convention’ rather than the October Katoomba Convention.”
The introduction of the childcare facilities and the inclusion of the training seminars to complement the Bible talks are design as Mr. Orpwood said: “To make it easier for families to attend by offering child care facilities. Parents can enjoy the teaching without concerns as to what their children are doing during the sessions. In addition to getting excellent Bible teaching, there will be an opportunity to attend a number of practical seminars.”
Mr. Orpwood states: “We believe people ought to be given opportunities to see how to put into practice the things they have been taught. When they return from the mountain top they will be ready to take plunges in ministry that they haven’t taken before but are now equipped to take.”
