Mr. Dudenhofer told Mission Network News (MNN) that Christianity in Kenya was very shallow. He also said corruption in the East African country was rife and indicated one reason for the shallowness was due to the lack of God's word.
"People are going to be looking for some answers," he said. "The country of Kenya is known as having a long-time influence of Christianity but that the Christianity in the country is very shallow."
"There's a lot of shallow, moral dissatisfaction with the way things have been going, and people really, really need to get a grip on what it means to be a Christian. They need to get into God's Word, which is one of the real causes for so much of the shallow Christianity."
Even though the violence originated from an electoral dispute, Mr. Dudenhofer believes people were engaging in random violence because many of them had no jobs. Given the volatile situation, he urged Christians to pray.
"The turmoil triggers all kinds of underlying problems, and it's not all political. It's just an excuse for many of the people to engage in random violence. So it's really important for people to pray."
Mr. Dudenhofer said many of the partner ministries had left and the ones that remained were held up at home. The aim was to get people out of sight so they could be protected until calm is restored.
