An Iranian kindergarten in the capital of Tehran has been shut down over a mixed-gender swimming pool.
In an interview with Tasnim News Agency, Ebrahim Ghafari, an official of the province, declared the temporary closure of the kindergarten, located in an affluent area, last month.
The kindergarten in question not only allowed the kids to spend time together in the pool, but also uploaded images of the kid on the social media.
According to Ghafari, when the swimsuit-clad pictures of young boys and girls appeared on a social media platform, officials decided to pay a visit to the kindergarten. The officials made a report on the matter later.
"The management of the kindergarten would not acknowledge the issue," he said, adding that "all the evidence in the pictures matched the kindergarten."
The kindergarten was shut down by the authorities after an emergency meeting, stating that the kindergarten is not following and respecting the "rules and norms".
Iran enforces gender segregation in many public places. Currently, women are barred from taking up jobs in coffee shops, coffee houses, and traditional Iranian restaurants. The country also keeps a close eye on allowing women in public venues.
A recent initiative by the Municipality of Tehran reportedly separates men and women's offices in the municipality, while limiting women's access to managerial and clerical positions.
