There are changes in the air for Christian book retailer Koorong as a deal has been made for their acquisition by Bible Society as of August 17 this year. This acquisition endeavours to make the Christian community stronger by allowing those who shop at Koorong contribute to Bible mission projects here and around the world.
This partnership not only allows Koorong to retain current stores and staff, but also allows the Bible Society to broaden their scope for missions and sharing the word of God.
Mutual interests leading to joint growth
The CEO of Bible Society Australia, Greg Clarke has expressed that this partnership allows a common goal to be met. "Bible Society and Koorong share a common goal and we believe that by coming together, we have the potential to transform hundreds of thousands of lives. It's a match made in heaven and will ensure that both organisations are positioned positively for growth and can thrive for years to come," Dr Clarke said.
Both partners seem to be happy with the new developments, with Managing
Director of Koorong, Paul Bootes explaining they are "thrilled with the new partnership" and the potential that will give them to share resources and support missions around the world.
Mission focus the only foreseeable change
Koorong started as a small operation out of the garage of Bootes' parents near Marsfield and has grown to what it is today with 15 stores nationwide and a booming online business.
Bible Society Australia is the oldest continuous organisation in Australia, however the work is ongoing. "In the past three years, [we have] established more than 100 international programmes but there are a huge number of deserving projects that still go unfunded each year," Dr Clarke said.
He went on to highlight the low literacy rates in countries like China, Pakistan and Zambia and how the acquisition of the book chain would help with their efforts: "We look forward to expanding our mission efforts alongside our loyal Koorong customers and seek the continued prayers and vital contributions of our valued supporters."
No changes are expected to be made to the way Koorong is currently being run, with Paul Bootes continuing to lead operations for the retailer.
