Within the blink of an eye the breath flowing through our lungs can be taken from us. At that time all that really matters is: Did we have a true relationship with Jesus Christ? And is it well with our souls?
Life
I have learned to appreciate how fragile life is. Being in the hospital setting I have seen people die before me and every time I would hope that the person knew God.
Having a relationship with Jesus Christ and making him Lord and Saviour of our lives is all that matters. He brings comfort in the toughest situations, peace in the midst of the storms we face, and most importantly he is our living hope.
As Christians, we do not have to fear because our eternity is in the hands of Abba. There is no need to worry because we have an anchor that keeps us safe and secure.
My scripture of comfort lately has been Colossians chapter 3 verse 3: “My life is hidden with Christ in God”. In Jesus I am safe, no matter what is going on around me.
Nothing, without God
Life is nothing without knowing the true and living God. The saying “We live to die” is very true. According to Hebrews chapter 9 verse 27: “It is appointed unto man once to die”, additionally, after death there will be a judgment.
Every man will be judged by God according to how they lived their lives. Revelation chapter 20 verse 12 reads “ And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.”
What we do matters, how we live matters: that is what will determine how we spend our eternity.
When the words “we live to die” are uttered, and there is no concern about eternal life, it breaks my heart. Jesus himself says, it is not my will that any should perish but that all shall come to eternal life. He has opened that door of salvation for us, by offering his life as atonement for all our sins.
Choose Jesus
In Ecclesiastes chapter 12 Solomon encourages us to remember our creator while we are young and strong. Let us choose Jesus while we have breath, because tomorrow is guaranteed to no man.
Life is short and fragile, we have to enjoy it with those we love, but most importantly we have to make God the centre of our lives. In the end it is God that really matters.
This is not the only life, there is eternity awaiting us. How we live now will determine how we will spend our eternity - with Jesus Christ or separated from Jesus in a place of torment. I pray that we will all make Jesus Christ our choice. It will be worth it after all.
Matthew chapter 10 verses 32-33, “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.”
