Liverpool hosted Manchester United on Super Sunday in what’s the biggest rivalry in English Football.
With Liverpool needing a win to regain the lead at the top of the Premier League and Mancheter United needing points desperately as they slide down the table – Anfield hosted a magical late afternoon kick off. Liverpool are currently on fire and didn’t disappoint.
Playing with aggression, passion & a forward thinking approach – Liverpool were too strong from the start – coming away 3-1 winners and regaining the lead above Manchester City on the table.
Manchester City continues their pursuit of Liverpool (leading the comp) with a 3-1 win at home to a stubborn Everton. Everton have had a good start to the League this year and looked set to make City’s job difficult in the early kick off on Saturdays.
However were undone by the brilliance of a brace from Gabriel Jesus and a late Sterling finish to ensure City walked away with all 3 points. The win leaves City now still 1 point behind Liverpool however 5 points clear of nearest rivals Spurs who are in 3rd place.
Saturday’s lunch time fixtures saw Crystal Palace gain a much needed 3 points – defeating Leicester 1-0 at home.
Newcastle won a 6 pointer – winning away 1-0 at under pressure Huddersfield Town. Spurs waited till injury time to break down Burnley, winning 1-0 to stay 3rd whilst Watford beat Cardiff 3-2.
Wolves continued their amazing form with a 2-0 win at home to Bournemouth whilst West Ham took all 3 points in their derby fixture away at a lacklustre Fulham.
Sunday’s early kick offs saw Chelsea continued their impressive form with a 2-1 win away at Brighton, whilst Southampton had an improbable win – beating high flying Arsenal 3-2 at St Marys to claw themselves out of the relegation zone & into 17th position on the table.
