Manchester United had their first win in 4 matches on Sunday, with a 4-0 thumping at home against Queens Park Rangers. United needed a win after 3 disappointing results against lower ranked opposition and one of United's worst starts to a Premier League season. Van Gaal must have been feeling the pressure as he still hadn't won a match, however this was the perfect opportunity to put things right as Rangers (relegation favourites) came to town. United were superb and gave their fans a taste of what is hopefully to come as Rooney, Di Maria, Herrera & Mata all scored and took untied back to mid table. United now faces a lengthy break with no European action in mid week before a difficult away trip to new boys Leicester City.
Saturday's early kick off brought to hopeful Premier League Winners together as Manchester City travelled to north London to take on Arsenal. The gunners were in a good mood, with new 16 million pound man Danny Welbeck starting for the gunners, and he nearly opened the scoring, with a deft touch that came back off the inside of the upright. Manchester City looked dangerous throughout and too the lead in the 28th minute with a Aguero strike. Arsenal were threatening all afternoon and a fantastic chip from England's Wilshere brought Arsenal back on level terms before Sanchez struck to take the Gunners into the lead. However a late header from Demichelis from a corner sealed a draw and a deserved point for both teams in the pursuit of an early lead in the table.
Fixtures on Saturday brought many goals as Chelsea were simply too strong for a gallant Swansea City. Costa scored a hat trick to take his tally to 7 goals from 4 appearances and put him in the early lead for the golden boot award. Southampton thrashed a poor Newcastle 4-0 to put under fire manager Pardrew in real danger of being the first manager casualty of the season. Leicester City had their first win of the season, with a brilliant 1-0 win and defensive display away at Stoke City. Everton won away at West Brom with a comfortable 2-0 score line to give West Brom cause for concern after a terrible opening to their campaign whilst Crystal Palace and Burnley played out a sour scoreless draw with both teams having limited chances.
The late kick off on Saturday brought together Aston Villa and Liverpool in Merseyside, with Aston Villa having not lost at Anfield since 2010. Villa started the strongest and were eventually rewarded for their pressure with a goal from a corner by inform Agbonlahor inside 20 minutes. From their Liverpool tried but could not break down a stubborn Villa defence, as Aston Villa continued their impressive start to the season. Villa now stand in 2nd position as Liverpool ponder their start to the season with 2 defeats already. Liverpool now turn their attention to the champions league in midweek.
