The Gunners were without Captain Fabragas however did still manage to put out a competitive team in a game that saw United stretched due to injuries. United were too strong though, and put themselves another step closer to winning the prestigious cup with a relatively comfortable 2-0 win. Arsenal must now look forward as they are in a great position in the league and have a great opportunity to win their first piece of silverware for over 5 years.
Manchester City set up a mouth-watering semi-final with Manchester United after beating a resilient Reading 1-0 at Eastland's. City had many opportunities to put the tie to bed, however Reading made sure they earned their spot in the last 4 with a battling display. City will now aim to break their 34 year trophy drought by beating United at Wembley in what can only be described as a must see fixture.
Bolton took on Birmingham City in the midlands. Early indications suggested this would be a tough fixture as both teams set up to attack. The game was finally balanced at 2-2 until Bolton stole the show in the final minute of the match, ensuring they would reach the Semi Finals and have a chance to meet one of their biggest rivals in the Final.
The last of the Semi Final matches on Sunday saw Stoke City take on West Ham. With both teams having somewhat of an indifferent season, this would have been the ideal match to mark a successful season. Both teams went on the attack early and produced some fantastic football however it was to be Stoke City's day, coming out winners and setting up a highly anticipated meeting with Bolton at the famous Wembley.
