Noisy Neighbours Manchester City are still in the mix with some fantastic results over the busy Christmas period. City are equal top of the league after overcoming Blackpool at home 1-0. City are now mounting a serious title challenge to United and has the strength and depth to keep it going.
Arsenal kept pace with the Manchester teams with a convincing 3-0 away win at St Andrews. Fabregas was again the instigator in a masterful Gunners performance that keeps the pressure on all the teams in the title race. Arsenal did struggle mid-week with a 2-2 draw away at Wigan however were too strong for Birmingham.
Chelsea had a much needed midweek victory over Bolton 1-0. That was Chelsea's first win in 7. Chelsea have slumped to 5th in the Premiership now and Sunday's home match against Aston Villa was vital however they struggled from the start to gain any real advantage. An entertaining game ended with Villa snatching a late goal to finish level at 3-3.
Liverpool Manager Roy Hodgson has had a difficult week. Liverpool lost in midweek at home to "bottom of the table" Wolves. Hodgson has been under increasing pressure with some poor results however they did bounce back on Saturday to win 2-1 at home to Bolton to relive some of the pressure. Torres was back on the score sheet as was Joe Cole.
Tottenham also kept the pressure on the teams at the top with a 1-0 home win against Fulham. Bale was again impressive, scoring the winner and helping Spurs to a Champions league place, currently in 4th.
In other New Year's Fixtures, West Ham are now off the foot of the table with a 2-0 win over Wolves at Upton Park. West Ham are now out of the relegation positions after picking up 8 points in their last 4 games. Stoke City piled on the misery of Everton with a 2-0 win. Sunderland moved up to 6th in the league with an impressive 3-0 win over Blackburn. Newcastle also managed a late goal to win 1-0 away at Wigan late on Sunday afternoon.
