The road of life is ladened with many roadblocks and detours that may take several and varying forms. Whether these roadblocks and detours serve to permanently halt your journey depends on your mindset and how much you want to complete your journey.
Building and maintaining the right mindset does not happen by chance. Creating the right mindset takes work and discipline. Just as you need to spend hours in the gym exercising and lifting weights to build muscles, so too you will need to spend hours feeding your mind with the material necessarily to grow, strengthen and expand it for the purposes of your life’s journey.
Have your mind set on the Spirit
In establishing the right mindset, it is imperative that we have our minds fixed on the Spirit. A mind fixed on spiritual things and the things of God will redound to wisdom and bring prosperity in all spheres of your life. Indeed, in Romans Chapter 8 verse 6 (ESV) the word of the Lord instructs us that “for to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace”. The right mindset therefore is a mind that is focused on the spirit and in so focusing this will ultimately lead to you living a wholesome life and characterized by peace.
Further, Romans Chapter 12 verse 2 (ESV) instruct us “do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
These two scriptures highlight in a significant way that a mind set on the ways of the world will lead to an unfulfilled life and destruction, whereas a mind set on the spirit and the things of God will lead to fulfilling life which is God’s best for you.
Have you mind set on good things
In addition to setting our minds on the spirit and renewing our minds, it is also critical and important that we think on good things. A mind fed on a diet of negativity will invariably produce negativity, but a mind nourished on good things will produce good things. Accordingly, the bible directs us in Philippians Chapter 4 verse 8 (ESV) that “finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things”.
It is easy for us to dwell on the mistakes we make and the roadblocks that we may encounter in our lives. How many times have you experienced disappointment in your life, and you spend significant time replaying the situation and pining about it over and over and over again? How many times have you thought yourself into a depression?
If your answer is many times, then its high time that you start to think on good things daily, as a matter of course. Irrespective of the issues we face and the obstacles that arise, let us think on whatever is true, honourable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, and worthy of praise.
Have your mind set on the Word
The bible instructs us in Joshua Chapter 1 verse 8 (ESV) that “this Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
A mind set on the word of God through meditating on it day and night are essential to navigating the road of life. As we meditate on the word and grow in the spirit, we will be equipped to deal with the many roadblocks, detours, traffic congestions and potholes that we may encounter along the road and journey of life. From the knowledge, wisdom and instruction given through the word of God we will be able to take the right routes and thereby make our way prosperous and experience life abundantly.
Therefore, brothers and sisters let us be sure to have the right mindset which is a mindset completely on Jehovah.
