Based on the true story of Patrick Henry Hughes, I Am Potential is a truly heartwarming story of how life can sometimes turn out differently than expected but not necessarily worse.
Expecting their first child, Patrick is hopeful for a son who will share his love of sports and maybe even become a sporting super-star. As they welcome their new little boy into the world, a shock diagnosis sees their dreams shattered as they come to terms with their baby being born with two very rare conditions - born without eyes and unformed joints. He would never see, and he would never be able to walk.
This turn of events sends both parents into a spin and although they love their baby dearly, the strain of broken dreams and adjusting to painful medical treatments begins to tear at the seams of their relationship and requires new ways of thinking.
Pulling away at first, Patrick struggles to connect with his son until a bond is formed through music. Placing him on the piano top while he plays, Patrick notices the soothing effect the music has on his blind baby boy. Keen to develop this love of music, Patrick spends more and more time with his son, and as Patrick Henry grows, so do his amazing skills at playing music.
Unable to walk, music becomes Patrick Henry's connection to the world and his positive attitude touches everyone who meets him. Patrick Henry overcomes many obstacles and as his father fights to give him what he needs to succeed, he learns that the sacrifice of love is more rewarding than his own goals and dreams.
With superb acting by Burgess Jenkins (Remember the Titans) and Jama Williamson (Parks and Recreation), this movie will have you in awe of the bond between a father and his disabled son who shows the world that his abilities are much greater than any disability.
