In its latest survey, entitled 'Life Together: Findings of Australian Youth Spirituality Research,' Dr. Hughes pointed out that 80 percent of young people in this nation were less 'militant and secular' compared to their parents.
In a further breakdown of the survey, Dr. Hughes explained to Christian Today Australia that 14 percent of youth, between the ages of 13 to 24, attended church at least once a week or more. In addition to that, 10 percent of youth, in the same age bracket, attended church at least once a month or more.
Despite this positive trend among the youth of Australia, there was a continual decline in overall church attendance across Australia. Although the Mega Churches in Australia were doing well, with the most prominent being Hillsong Church drawing in 15,000 people, the gap of those leaving the church were not being filled by the attendance to the Mega Churches, said Dr. Hughes.
On any given Sunday, people over the age of 60 were twice as likely (30% compared to 15%) to attend Sunday Service at least once a month compared to those under the age of 60. In Australia, 9 percent of Australians attend Sunday Service.
In its latest survey, the CRA was focus on the spirituality of Australian youth. The CRA is an all-denominational Christian research ministry.
