He explained that the London Olympic authorities have said that, at this stage, we shouldn't make public too much about our positions of what we are learning. Whilst away, he has been very concerned for the orphans his ministry supports in Eastern Europe. It's a very cold winter right now – it is in Eastern Europe - 27C in Latvia and -30C in Ukraine.
"We are sending in warm clothes, boots and jackets to keep these children warm and safe. There are some crises with the children's health where they have been hospitalised," David Smethurst noted.
He has arrived in Brisbane 31c from a very cold and snowy London (-5C) where David was undertaking his initial training and orientation for the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.
"I had three sessions, two in Hackney and the big orientation programme in the Wembley Arena. There are more training modules to attend from March to June, in between all the missions I have planned in USA, Latvia, Russia and Israel," he expressed.
Then there is the time of July to September when he is totally committed to serve at the Games. What a great opportunity to serve the athletes of the world and their managers and officials in my capacity as chaperone/counsellor working with the National Olympic Committee and the National Paralympic Committee in the Olympic Village in Stratford, London.
"I will have to be very discreet in my personal capacity in sharing the gospel and bringing athletes to Jesus who will in turn bring many more to Him from their high profile. I would appreciate your prayers for the success and fruitfulness of this vital mission as well as the finances involved," he explained in cautionary tones.
This will be his 4th Olympics & Paralympics and another great opportunity to bring athletes from many nations into a relationship with Jesus.
