Pray for our brother-in-Christ, Kanye West. The past few weeks, Kanye’s behaviour and announcements over social media and at press events have been a rollercoaster of emotions, with many fans of the Grammy-award-winning artist concerned for his mental wellbeing.
Last year he shocked the Christian world, and let’s be honest probably the rest of the world too, by releasing his first Christian-themed album, JESUS IS KING. Kanye has teased on his Twitter that the 11-track gospel-rap album will be succeeded by DONDA, which based on the track list appears to be continuing with Christian themes.
What has Kanye been up to since then? Over the past few weeks, causing chaos on twitter over his presidential campaign, his new album, family drama, and pro-life arguments.
How can we pray for him?
At Kanye’s first presidential campaign event he voiced his pro-life position and cried over having wanted to abort his first daughter. A divided response from attendees at the event. Several days later Mr. West began tweeting about the topic, sharing his own experiences and statistics on abortion.
Kanye is no stranger to controversy (how many times has someone written that on the internet, I wonder?). And look, abortion really is a tricky topic for a lot of people, it might be a tragedy, but it is an understandable one. People may be divided between the sanctity of life and an individual’s own needs for financial and livelihood stability.
Pray that Kanye can continue to use his platform to talk about more ethical and moral dilemmas and that it will get people thinking critically about the topics.
Regardless of your stance on the issue, you may pray that the root problems which lead to abortions can be solved, such as access to contraception and economic imbalances that prevent people from being able to provide a stable environment for children, among many other factors.
Kanye for 2020?
Yep you read that right. Kanye West has begun his presidential campaign in the United States, but is he genuinely running for president, or is it a publicity stunt for his new album?
Well…
The idea of Kanye running for president isn’t exactly new, in August 2015 Kanye voiced his intention to run for president, resulting in an abundance of ‘vote Kanye’ memes and light intrigue over whether the rapper would seriously run for president.
Kanye is running under the ‘Birthday Party’, the logic behind this is that when they win it will feel like a birthday. Mr. West also referred to the fictional country of Wakanda in the Marvel Comics universe as a foundation for a political system. Keep in mind, this is the same country where Donald Trump currently resides as president. The idea of Kanye as president may not be too far-fetched.
According to his recent interview with Forbes, Kanye has stated that he is pro-life, against the death penalty, and wants to end police brutality in America. He does come off as genuinely wanting to improve people’s livelihoods, even if the campaign is not serious.
Perhaps the most likely outcome from Kanye’s presidential campaign (aside from people voting for him) would be that he might encourage young Americans who otherwise would not have considered voting before to do so now.
Pray for God to guide America’s decision for their next president that will undoubtedly have an impact on the rest of the world, and that Kanye can encourage more Americans to vote for their country’s leader.
Final prayer points
Pray for Kanye’s family life, that he can be a good husband to his wife Kim Kardashian and be a good father to his children. Pray that he can continue to produce music that might challenge people’s views on Christianity, God, and Jesus and consider what it means for them.
Amen.
