Even monarchs can recognise the draw of Westeros.
In her annual Christmas Day speech last Thursday, Queen Elizabeth II mentioned Game of Thrones in her address, much to the delight of fans, of both the show and the royal family.
The grandmother of Prince William and Prince Harry references the HBO hit TV series based on the George RR Martin novels, which stars numerous British actors and is premised the violent power struggle across the fictional realm of Westeros.
"The benefits of reconciliation were clear to see when I visited Belfast in June," she said. "While my tour of the set of Game Of Thrones may have gained most attention, my visit to the Crumlin Road Gaol will remain vividly in my mind. What was once a prison during the Troubles is now a place of hope and fresh purpose; a reminder of what is possible when people reach out to one another,' said the 88 year old British monarch.
Around June, the Queen traveled to Northern Ireland to visit one of the sets of Game of Thrones, where she met several cast members, including Maise Williams who plays the young Arya Stark and Kit Harington who plays Jon Snow. The Queen also got to see the infamous Iron Throne.
