Facebook now enables users to experience again their previous status updates on search result through the search function on its Web and mobile version.
The first one to experience it is the users of iPhone and English-speaking desktop. Users will be able to search their old posts including the posts of their friends and families. The update will also be available to users of Android tablets or Smartphones soon.
According to Tom Stocky, Facebook VP of Search "with a quick search, you can get back to a fun video from your graduation, a news article you've been meaning to read, or photos from your friend's wedding last summer."
The user must type a word or words that he can remember from his old posts so that it will appear on search result. Stocky also added that the search results of the user are personalized and unique and that the user can only see the things being shared to him by his friends or family.
Completion of this Facebook application on search result has been a huge task. As mentioned by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook needs to index more than one trillion pieces of content for post searching to be accomplished. Post searching has a significant impact on the financial aspect of Facebook advertising. Advertisers will be able to know their target market bases on the status update mentioned by the Facebook user.
Privacy settings of the user will have an effect in the search feature's ability. A friend's previous posts cannot be retrieved if the posts have been set for limited access on privacy setting. It has been suggested to the users of Facebook to personalize their privacy settings to limit the access of their friends to retrieve their previous posts.
