After a minimal break over a short summer break and the EURO’s also squeezed in, the Premier League is back and already the pace setters have found their rhythm and the way to the top of the league.
With all the big clubs busy in the transfer window with new signings- there was no bigger news than the return of Ronaldo to United after a 12-year absence.
The 36-year-old signed from Juventus and he didn’t take any time to adjust to the pace of the Premier League with his first start for the Reds on Saturday as United hosted Newcastle.
Ronaldo took centre stage with a brace on his 2nd debut whilst also sending United to the top of the league with the 4-1 win in front of a full Old Trafford. United with a few additions are now firmly in the hunt for silver where with many attacking options for Ole’s disposal.
Chelsea also featured with a dominant display. The Blue’s defeated Villa 3-0 at home in London with their main summer transfer capture Lukaku also scoring a brace for Chelsea & taking his tally to 4 goals in as many matches. Chelsea have made no secret of their desire to regain the domestic trophy’s after last seasons champions league victory & will be happy with a great start to the season.
City and Liverpool also had good wins to maintain the pressure & make up the early running in the hunt for the top 4. City won 1-0 away at Leicester whilst Liverpool dismantled Leeds in Yorkshire with a fine performance- winning 3-0. They did however suffer a set back with young Elliott suffering a horrible ankle injury that could see him miss the remainder of the season.
Other fixtures this weekend saw Arsenal get their first win of the season with a hard fought 1-0 win at home to Norwich. Brighton won 1-0 away at Brentford whilst Southampton and West Ham played out a scoreless draw. Wolves won 2-0 away at Watford & in in the early kick off – Crystal Palace upset Spurs with a surprising 3-0 victory in the local London Derby.
