This writer is reminded of a story he heard about a Pastor who was given one hour by God to be able to read his parishioner's minds as he walked the main street of town. He returned home shattered that not one was thinking about him or last Sunday's sermon.
Mark Tronson often retold this story to his four children when they were in high school, ( mind you, quite some years ago now ), so as to suggest that purchasing expensive designer label clothes was pointless as no one was thinking about them! All to little effect he added.
Seriously, finding a mechanism, however well meaning, to read people's minds would in M V Tronson's view, be fraught with dangers. Regardless of how well protected the secrets might be, inevitably it would be utilised for wickedness.
The entire world is aware of how dangerous nuclear science is and there the extraordinary efforts that are made to keep such weaponry of mass destruction out of the hands of those with terrorist motifs.
Sports has been engaged in communications for years. Gridion coaches can talk to American Footballers through technology in their helmets. Cricketers are wired up so they can talk to the media in the shorter versions of the game. Field Hockey umpires can now be heard through this modern technology.
But will there ever become a time when athletes become like robots and directed through 'mind reading' and 'mind communication' where it then becomes an entirely different type of contest.
Science fiction movies make this out as the norm, in non-reality futuristic make believe. This writer believes there must be a constant vigilance against Sport becoming the guinea pig in any such idea under the guise of development.
Christians believe firmly in good and evil, moreover that the Holy Spirit speaks into the hearts and minds of each individual and more so, the Spirit of God lives within the believer. We're also told in the Scriptures that Satan is on the prowl.
The Christian believes there is spiritual evil associated with mind games, and the last thing Christians want is their fellow human beings having similar wicked manipulation in such matters.
