Chelsea won their first title in 4 years on Sunday with a superb 8-0 drubbing of Wigan Athletic at the Bridge. Drogba was magnificent as he scored a perfect hat trick while his strike partner Anelka scored a brace. Frank Lampard, Kalou and Ashley Cole were also on target in a scintillating display to steer the Blues back to the Promised Land. Chelsea now prepares to take on Portsmouth next weekend in the FA Cup final at Wimberley to try to secure an unprecedented double. Manchester United meanwhile needed to win and hope Chelsea would slip up, however even after a dominate 4-0 home win over Stoke, it wasn't enough and United finished a disappointing season with only the Carling Cup League Cup to their name. Ferguson had nothing but praise for Chelsea and said "it takes a fine side to beat Manchester United".
Tottenham suffered a hangover after their fantastic 1-0 win over Manchester City mid week with a shock 4-2 loss away at Burnley. Spurs could have been forgiven after they secured 4th and a Champions League position. Spurs now have a fantastic season ahead and their die hard fans now have reward for some disappointing previous seasons that promised so much.
Manchester City capped off a disappointing season with a poor 1-1 away draw at West Ham. Adam Johnson was the only bright spark in a team that were already at the beach in their minds. Big questions will be asked over the summer as the richest club in the world look to spend spend spend to mount a serious challenge next campaign.
Liverpool travelled away to Relegated Hull City and finished a poor season with a 0-0 draw. Their were few chances in a game that summed up Liverpool's season. There will be lots of movement at Anfield in the summer as Liverpool look to sell and reshuffle their squad. Benetez wants to stay if conditions are right; however uncertainty is the word that best describes all things at Anfield right now.
In other games on the last game of the season, Blackburn finished off a very successful season under Alladyce with a fine 1-0 away win at Aston Villa. Arsenal were too strong for a depleted Fulham winning 4-0. Everton won 1-0 at home to Portsmouth. Wolves had a great 2-1 win over Sunderland and Bolton also capped a great finish to the season with a 2-1 win at home to Birmingham.
All attention now turns to Fulham as they take on Athletico Madrid in the Europa Cup Final in Germany on Wednesday, while the FA Cup Final will be played in London on Saturday with Chelsea taking on Portsmouth. The season has now concluded until August when 20 teams will contest arguably the most exciting league in the world. Congratulations to Newcastle and West Brom as they have gained promotion for next season. Congratulations to Chelsea on winning the League.
