Wayne Rooney was again the centre of attention at Old Trafford on Sunday with 2 goals as United ran out comfortable winners over Fulham 3-0. Rooney now has 32 goals for the season and with United still in the Champions League there is no reason why he can't surpass Renaldo's record breaking 42 goal season. Ferguson again praised Rooney's effort and commitment as an inspirational display by the former Everton man.
Chelsea meanwhile kept the pressure up with a 4-1 victory over local rivals West Ham at Stamford Bridge. Drogba scored twice with Malouda and Alex scoring but not before a stunning strike by former Chelsea favourite Parker, which saw the Hammers go ahead. Chelsea are 2 points behind United however they do have a game in hand.
Brilliant Bedtner scored an injury time winner at the KC Stadium as Arsenal won 2-1. Arsharvin was at his best as he opened the scoring before a Bullard penalty levelled the scores. With Bedtner scoring a hat trick in the Champions League in mid week the front man followed up a long range attempt to find the ball fall at his feet and neatly tucked home in the 3rd minute of injury time. With the run the Gunners have, it would take a brave man to bet against them lifting their first piece of silverware for over 5 years.
In the race for 4th spot both Villa and Man City were held to draws away from home.
Villa did well away at Stoke City with a fantastic defensive display in a scoreless encounter, while Man City's Adam Johnson rescued a point for City with a fine strike to cancel out Jones opener for Sunderland. Liverpool took full advantage of the situation with a thumping 4-1 win at home against Portsmouth. 2 goals from Torres compiled Pompey's misery and Portsmouth now look doomed to relegation. Spurs also capitalised with a 3-1 home win over Blackburn. Rejuvenated Pavlyuchenko scored a brace and Defoe was again on the score sheet.
Hull Cities poor run of results has left the Club Manager less as Phil Brown has been given the sack. Saturday's 2-1 home loss didn't help the Tigers as they now look to find someone that can get them to safety. Bolton who were embarrassed last week by a 4-0 thumping gave out there own 4-0 hammering this week with Davies and Elmander both on target. The win gives Bolton some vital breathing space as Wigan look more and more likely to go down. Wolves won a 6 pointer at Burnley. Both teams needed the points and this game could go a long way to deciding who will be in premiership and championship next season.
Everton went 2 goals up early away from home only to see Birmingham City come back to even things up with Gardner scoring his first for the club since his move from Villa Park. Both clubs have hopes of European qualification however this result has done little to help there situations.
