The Australian Missionary News IPTV anchorman Mark Tronson asked Steve Mason about his Christian development. Steve Mason explained that he grew up in a home where his mother was a Christian and as a family were involved in their local church, and where his father eventually became a Christian, also giving his life to the Lord.
He grew up in Marubra a Sydney southern beaches suburb not far from Bondi the famous quintessential Australian beach side suburb, and at high school he went a bit crazy and started to hang with school mates that didn't have the same Christian values and home life as he enjoyed.
As he matured he felt a growing unease hanging about with these mates and finally decided to separate himself from such activities as they engaged in, and found himself within the bosom of the local congregation and their youth work.
He sensed that Christ had a growing call upon his life and sensed that Jesus was the only way and gave himself to following Jesus. He married and he and his wife had five children who are now all grown up, and found he had a perchant for children's ministry (with five of his own). He loves ministering to both little kids and teenagers and his gregarious nature has contributed as a well spring of enjoyment to this end.
Steve Mason began working in the Pre-Press Printing industry and developed his graphic design and art interests as he had a proclivity towards these. He worked for various companies and ended up in the advertising industry where he was kept busy and on good money, but felt for him, there was a lack of purpose as a Christian in these endeavours.
He looked to where he might serve and the Lord led him to the Sydney Anglican Media Unit where he has found fulfilment where all of his years of professional skills in the graphics arena are utilised in serving the Lord. Steve Mason has found much satisfaction in working in Anglican Media, it is as though his life's pathways have crossed at this ideal juncture.
His passion however, apart from Children's Ministry, is that of designing and working towards a Graphic Comic series of novels, telling stories through comics, with some Christian input. This endeavour is for the secular market.
Steve Mason explained that in his view, this graphic comic development "spells out who I am, so why shouldn't it be, who I am, in these presentation to the secular world!"
