Nostalgia-driven series 'Stranger Things' did something unexceptional. The show with only one season of eight episodes in its kitty has surpassed 'Daredevil', 'Jessica Jones' and 'House of Cards' as the third most viewed show on Netflix.
Netflix has the reputation of rolling in when asked for viewing figures, but that does not stop the fact that Stanger Things is one of its most popular series with the buzz all around the internet. Though it has not been confirmed whether word-of-mouth played an important role in the rising population of viewers of the show, it is likely the case as many celebs have taken to social media accounts to rave about the show.
According to Business Insider, the show garnered 8.2 million viewers in its first 16 days which beats a long list of other Netflix shows. Standing third in the list, the only two shows having more viewership are 'Fuller House' in number one and 'Orange Is the New Black' in the second position respectively. Marvel's Daredevil stood in fourth position with 6.8 million views.
Data company Parrot Analytics found that Stranger Things is inching close to the US's most popular show 'Game of Thrones' after it became the most popular digital original series in the country. The popularity of the show helped the show's soundtrack by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, get a two-volume release.
The show released on Netflix on July 15, 2016 by the Duffer Brothers tells the story in 80's style. The series will soon see a second running after the creators left clues about the renewal, but nothing seems official at the moment.
Reed Hastings, Chief Executive of Netflix also confirmed that things are on line for the second season.
