Liverpool hosted Manchester City in what was dubbed the hottest fixture of the 2018/19 Premier League season so far, however the match did not live up to expectations. City had a few chances and new record signing Mahrez looked the liveliest, however he stepped up in the 86th minute of the match to take the best chance of the match when City won a dubious penalty, however he blasted over the bar to ensure the points were shared at Anfield.
That result leaves both clubs on 20 points at the summit of the premier league – shared with Chelsea after the Royal’s won 3-0 convincingly away earlier on Sunday at a disappointing Southampton. Southampton have only won 1 match all calendar year at home which is worrying signs for Mark Hughes and the trend continued on Sunday.
Manchester United scored an amazing stoppage time winner as they came back from 2-0 down at home to Newcastle United to win 3-2. Mourinho is under much scrutiny and you could feel the pressure inside Old Trafford as United went down early, conceding 2 goals in the first 10 minutes of the match. United kept pressing and pulled one back in the 70th minute before going on with the job and moving United up to 8th position!!
Saturday’s lunch time fixtures saw Bournemouth continue their best ever start to a season with a thumping 4-0 away win at the impressive Watford side. Bournemouth are now up to 7th on the table and their form is catching the eye of many in the top flight.
In London, Spurs won in front of a terrible home crowd at Wembley defeating Cardiff 1-0, whilst Everton won an entertaining fixture 2-1 away at Leicester City. Wolves won 1-0 in London at the hands of Crystal Palace whilst Burnley and Huddersfield Town played out a 1-1 draw.
Sunday’s early kick off was a hotly anticipated London derby as Arsenal travelled to Fulham. The Gunners kept up their amazing run with their 6 consecutive win – moving to 4th in the league and just 2 points behind the top with a huge 5-1 away win.
The Gunners are now in form & look great under Emery, looking to keep the pressure on the front runners.
