Born and raised in Katoomba NSW, Susan Fuhrmann and the Fuhrmann family relocated to Perth, Western Australia when Susan was five years of age. Susan began playing netball with friends and it quickly became obvious that Susan was very good at it. Moreover Susan was talent-scouted in her junior years to representative level.
As Susan Fuhrmann's skills developed in 2004 Susan was picked up by the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra after her high school years. Here Susan further honed her skills over the next three years under head coach Norma Plummer who has been an inspiration in her netball development. 2004 was the first year that the AIS was introduced into the national netball competition.
Susan Fuhrmann was soon in the national eye and has become a regular in the Australian team with Norma Plummer as the National Netball Team Head Coach. With the Australian Netball Team Susan Fuhrmann has travelled extensively to England, Jamaica, New Zealand and throughout Australia with the national netball competition and was in the 2006 Commonwealth Games team.
"People think there is time for sightseeing and partying on tours, but that is so far from the reality. You are on your feet so much with the stress on your ankles and knees that all you see is the court and the motel room," Susan Fuhrmann explained afterwards.
Delma Tronson asked Susan Fuhrmann of her support network as a Christian. Susan noted that Victory Life Centre in Osborne Park (Perth) under the ministry of Margaret Court has a remarkable young adults ministry of which she is part. Her two sisters and herself live together in a house nearby and she loves and adores these bonding relationships.
As a follower of Jesus, Susan Fuhrmann noted that her mentors are her mum and dad who are beautiful Christian people who put God first in all that they do and they put His Word first in all their understanding. They live for the Lord, Susan explained.
Susan Fuhrmann said that for her, it was God's Word that brings her alive in her faith. Susan quoted those two wonderful bible texts: "I can do all things through Christ who strengths me" and "He who has done a good work in me will complete it ….. in Jesus Christ."
This interview can be viewed at either and was shown as a DVD at the Tweed Heads Anglican Church Men's Fellowship where Mark Tronson spoke earlier this week.
