He had an illegal gun on the right side and cocaine on the left side as he stood at the altar. At an altar? Yes, you read right. At the church altar. I led this brother with a gun and cocaine on him to Christ at an altar.
It was after service on a Sunday and I was asked to do the altar call. This brother, who I will call Matt (not his real name), had introduced himself to me before the service started. I told him to stay for the service.
He sat in church with an illegal gun and cocaine on him. He was a gunman and a cocaine peddler. He was involved in a gang but had decided to leave. That day he found himself at the same church I attended. Coincidence?
I led him to the Lord at the altar. A few weeks later, I baptized him myself at a beautiful, natural river with clear, cold water. I began to keep in touch with Matt and started praying for him and ministering to him.
He was somewhat scared for his life. A man on the run. Those who he once killed people with, now wanted to kill him. He was very deep in a gang and knew too much secrets. Besides, he still had one of the gang’s guns. He didn’t know what to do with it. I didn’t know what to tell him to do with it either.
The angel stopped the bullets and saved his life
This was my first time dealing with a gunman. A man who was involved in serious crimes in my country. I was as nervous as a leaf. To be honest I was somewhat afraid of Matt. He had that rough, tough, bad man look in his eyes. In fact, I saw evil in his eyes. But I felt the need to continue showing him the love of Christ.
One Friday night, I felt a real, powerful urge to call him. I couldn’t say why. I just felt the urge. As I talked and prayed with him over the phone, I saw something I had never seen before. It was about 20 feet tall, the form of a man, with fingers long like a hand, wearing white, and standing over Matt’s shoulders. Oh my God… it was an angel.
Immediately, my mouth began to speak about angelic protection. I say my mouth because I don’t recall consciously praying about angels. I knew I was praying about protecting his life, as I knew he was in danger. However, I was not praying about angels.
When I saw the huge figure over Matt, I heard myself saying “I release that angel to protect you”. I knew the scripture in Psalm 91 which speaks about the angels of the LORD encamping around us to protect us, but this was playing out before me in a vivid and amazing manifestation. I saw the Bible come alive in a powerful way.
So, that was Friday night when I saw the angel over Matt. A most amazing thing happened the following day. Two of Matt’s former cronies came to see him and called him out to the gate. Matt unsuspectingly went out to see them.
Immediately, they pulled two 45M hand gun and began firing at Matt, at point blank range. Guess what? Not one bullet fired. Matt said the guys kept on firing, and firing, but no bullets were released from the guns. Hallelujah! Matt survived to tell the tale.
Shaking like a leaf
Matt came to church the next day (Sunday) and told me the story. He sat before me and was still shaking. Yes, friends. Shaking. I mean shaking like a leaf. He couldn’t explain why he didn’t die. He knew about guns and how to shoot people and he was at a loss as to why the guns failed to fire at him.
As he sat before me, the Lord opened my spiritual eyes and took me back to Saturday and showed me exactly what happened. Remember I said that the angel had fingers that was long like a man’s hand. Well, the LORD showed me that the angel pushed his long fingers into both guns and stopped them. Wow. Are you kidding me? Nope.
This is what the Lord showed me. This was the word that came to me as a thought from the Lord: “The angel you saw on Friday was dispatched to save Matt’s life on Saturday”. That is why Matt didn’t die. The angel protected him from certain death. The angels will protect you as well. Do you believe?
Each time I tell this story people shiver. I shiver at times, because Matt is still alive today serving the Lord. He saw a clear demonstration of the power of God to save. That power is here today and I release it upon you to save and protect you, in the mighty Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the Holy One of Israel. Remember the Word says, the angels are our helpers. Use them today.
