The responsibility, in fact what pastors are paid for, is to truthfully speak God’s Word from the Bible. This is the history of prophets and preachers throughout the Bible and yet today Christians, the media and society are hailing the false words of a preacher, as a great message.
Effectively, the world has congratulated a man for failing to do his job and for failing to accurately represent the God of the universe, who created the heavens and the earth and because of His love sent His Son to save only those who believe in Him.
Bishop Murray Curry’s recent ‘sermon’ at the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has been hailed a success (tip: instantly warning bells should sound when unbelievers unanimously acclaim a sermon), but in many ways failed to teach correctly what God’s Word says.
The most important error in this ‘sermon’ was his underlying theme of the universal power and unity of love. Why is this the most important error you may ask? Effectively the Bishop’s sermon told the whole world they were God’s children and therefore should embrace His love and do loving deeds. This lie only makes people feel good while they are condemned to hell… because God’s children are only those who trust their lives in His Son and love Him.
Here are the exact words from this sermon that propagate this message, “Jesus of Nazareth taught us that the way of love is the way to a real relationship with the God who created all of us, and the way to true relationship with each other as children of that one God, as brothers and sisters in God’s human family.”
Further he says
He further goes on to say, “When love is the way, we know that God is the source of us all. We are brothers and sisters, children of God. Brothers and sisters: that’s a new heaven, a new earth, a new world, a new human family.”
These two quotes reject Jesus as the way (John chapter 14, verse 6 “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”). Instead, the Bishop says that Jesus taught love was the way, not that Jesus Himself was the only way to God and only because of His death on the cross and resurrection.
Secondly, these words propose love is the only factor to become children of God and enjoy relationship with Him (and all humanity). More than this, the Bishop calls the audience “brothers and sisters” directly after he says children of God are “brothers and sisters”. Therefore, he suggests everyone present at the wedding were children of God and were in relationship with Him.
What a deception! Even the most popular Bible verse in the whole Scripture says this isn’t true, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John chapter 3, verse 16).
This verse says that God loved, not that people loved. This verse says that God sent His Son to save humanity, not that man can save Himself. This verse says that you must believe (implying ongoing faith and submission to Christ) to be rewarded with eternal life, because otherwise you will be condemned to hell.
The truth
This is the truth from God’s Word and this should have been the message delivered to the people at the wedding and the millions who have watched or read the sermon. This message would not have received the same fanfare as Bishop Curry did, but to accept the message of Jesus Christ’s death on the cross to take away sin is the only way to relationship with God and the only way to salvation.
If you agree with the message from Bishop Curry, I urge you to stop right now and consider what the Bible says about love, about God and about salvation. If you understand the real message of Christ, make sure you tell others, because they are believing a lie.
