Don't Be Ashamed
People shouldn't be ashamed about their chosen career or job. There are many circumstances surrounding employment today. One factor could be the economy. If times are tough, and finding a job is hard, someone shouldn't be ashamed about working a low paying or even "demeaning" job if it pays the bills.
Character Building
Working these types of jobs, the ones people don't think very highly of, can build character in people. It's often by working these jobs that people come home with fascinating stories about people they come into contact with. That's a positive people often forget, or put to the back of their mind when they think about these jobs.
The body of Christ
I was thinking recently about the Bible passage of 1 Corinthians 12. This passage talks about the body of Christ, however I was thinking about it in relation to the body of people in general. Particularly, I was thinking about 1 Corinthians 12:12 "Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ." How did I take this verse and relate it back to people in general?
Different Jobs in the World
I was thinking about the human population in general as a whole body. If a body has many parts, then it must be so in the sense of the general human public. Therefore, in order for life to work, there must be many different occupations. If everyone worked the same job, then the world wouldn't function properly. Different jobs were created for a purpose.
Changing Careers
Another work related area that can cause friction between people is career changes. I remember when I was in Grade 12 or so in High School, my Maths teacher told the class that in our lives we would change jobs or careers a number of times. Today, this idea doesn't seem so crazy. But to older people, who perhaps grew up in a different era, or only worked in the one career, this seems preposterous.
Comfort in Knowing
Throughout my life after High School, and even University, I have come to feel comfortable with the world of work. I should clarify this sentence. I am comfortable in knowing that it's okay to change careers or jobs throughout your life. There is no need to panic if I don't find a job using my degree straight away.
Do What You Love
If you're at the time in your life where you are deciding what type of career path to take, you don't need to stress. People will have opinions in any and every given situation. You can't please everyone in life, so there has to be a compromise. I want to live my professional life doing something that I love. Do you want to do something that you love for work too?
