NYPD increased security in places of worship in New York City following an attack in a Brooklyn synagogue.
According to reports, a man later identified as Calvin Peters broke into the synagogue, shouted "Kill the Jews!" and stabbed a 22-year-old rabbinical student.
The incident resulted in a standoff, which eventually led to the suspect being shot by a police officer.
John Miller, NYPD spokesman, said that the attack was an isolated incident. The suspect, according to Miller, was no stranger to the police department and was known to be emotionally disturbed. Miller added, "... given the concern that the news of the story might bring to other houses of worship in the city... you will see some enhanced coverage in terms of police presence."
The standoff that happened between the suspect and the police was recorded by a witness with an amateur video. It shows Peters being repeatedly warned to drop the knife he was holding while he refused to do so. A few seconds later, a gunshot was heard.
The victim, Levi Rosenblat, was rushed to the hospital. He sustained wounds from a 9-inch knife and a 4.5-inch knife. He is presently in a stable condition and is recovering at a hospital.
